How to build a men’s skincare routine from the inside out

February 14, 2024

Most women master skincare lingo at an early age, whereas most men’s grasp of skincare begins and ends with a razor. Men can and should create their own skincare routine for youthful skin—and it doesn’t have to be extensive. Ease into an AM/PM skincare routine that can boost not only the quality of your shave, but your outside appearance and how you feel within.

What skin issues should I be aware of?

How can I help my skin?

Healthy skin begins with proper skincare products and selfcare. You don’t necessarily need a 10-step routine—using the right skincare products in the right order is what matters.

Cleanser: Choosing a facial cleanser for your skin type and having a regular cleansing routine will help purify and visibly shrink your pores. Try a creamy cleanser that promotes hydrated skin by gently exfoliating dead skin cells and using replenishing oils to brighten and recharge your complexion.

Eye Cream/serum: With aging or hereditary, the eye area is wrinkle- and dark circles-prone. This is where an eye cream or serum can help refresh all around the eyes, and help minimize dryness and the look of wrinkles and crow’s feet.

Moisturizer: A lightweight, oil-free moisturizer can keep skin hydrated without a greasy residue or uncomfortable feel. Even if you have oily-prone skin, a moisturizer is essential to keeping skin’s oils balanced.

Sunscreen/SPF: Applying a daily broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher is critical to helping protect the skin from damaging sun exposure. This is a top skincare product that should always be included in any routine. UVA and UVB rays are responsible for signs of aging, sunburn and cancer-causing risk. It may be surprising, but it is vital to wear sunscreen regardless of the weather or your time spent indoors. Why? Because UV light penetrates through windows—even days in your home office equate to incidental sun exposure that can prematurely age your skin.

Eat right for your skin type

“Eating your water” through fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamins and antioxidants enhances the appearance and overall health of the skin.

Suggested fruits and vegetables include:

  • Berries
  • Kale
  • Oranges
  • Bell peppers
  • Red grapes
  • Avocados
  • Tomatoes
  • Kidney beans
  • Watermelon
  • Broccoli

Including a daily skincare routine will not only elevate your skin health, but also increase confidence and self-esteem. Taking the time to observe the way your skin reacts while introducing new products to your skin will ensure your new men’s skincare routine is what is best for you and your specific needs.
