Dr. Murad has long understood that true skin beauty is only achievable where there is true skin health. And true skin health begins at the cellular level—where health for every system in the body is rooted. The Murad skincare philosophy is an inclusive one, meaning that skin health calls for treatment both from the inside and the outside using formulas that have been developed using The Science of Cellular Water™.
What We See
The skin we see is tissue already formed. It faces a number of challenges each
day from outside sources including moisture evaporation, UV radiation, pollution,
temperature variations and so on. Topical skincare products are designed to treat
the uppermost layers of the skin (epidermis) to preserve the hydration and structural
integrity that's there.
Topicals Can Only Go Skin Deep
As excellent as they are, topicals can only go so far on their own for a couple
of reasons:
First, many skin disorders start from the inside, much deeper than any topical can penetrate. Cosmetic or over the counter treatments are generally only absorbed by the epidermis. Sometimes the internal cause is hormonal (acne and those deriving from menopause, for example), other times there might be a structural breakdown of the skin's deeper layer (dermis), as with deeper wrinkles, for instance.
Second, certain molecules that might be beneficial to the skin (collagen for example) are just too large to penetrate into skin cells to treat and repair.
Inside View
Skincare starts from the inside which is why a nutritious diet and plenty of water
are so important.
Dr. Murad was the first to take this principle one step further. Because so many skin issues require physiological treatment at the levels where skin cells are formed, he created Internal Skincare® Supplements in 1996. He understood that the right blends of nutrients could have powerful, and positive, consequences. For example, Pure Skin® Clarifying Supplement reduces breakouts by 55% in 6 weeks. And Youth Builder® Collagen Supplement diminishes fine lines and wrinkles by 34% in 5 weeks.
The inside/outside approach is nothing short of healthcare for the skin, which in turn addresses healthcare for the whole body. Pair clinically proven formulas treating both the internal with external, and it becomes a powerful beautifying (to say nothing of healthful) combination indeed.
The Big Three
What's intriguing is that there are direct parallels between internal and external skincare ingredient functions and their benefits. Though there are many others of varying importance, Murad has identified the three most important categories of skincare ingredients and addressed them all.
We are proud that every single Murad formula, whether a topical skincare product or an internal supplement, contains:
1 Antioxidants
2 Anti-Inflammatories
3 Hydrating Ingredients
