Need Inspiration? Here Are 9 Simple Ways to Find it Fast

“Magic only happens when you create your own.” ~ Dr. Howard Murad

Have you ever found yourself in a rut? Bored? Nothing seems to really excite you and you just feel kind of blah?

We’ve all been there at one time or another. So how do we get some magic and inspiration back into our lives? Check out these 9 simple ideas:

Give back. When you help others, you help yourself. Try volunteering for a program you really believe in. Find a charity you want to support, help with events around the holidays, or organize your own community program. Offer to watch your neighbor’s kids or help a friend in need. Open your heart to others and they will open theirs to you.

Create a healthy environment. The environment we’re surrounded by has an impact on how we feel. Is your environment uplifting and encouraging? Or dark and depressing? Keep your surroundings clean and organized, light and bright.

Get up and go. Travel can be expensive and hard to schedule, but there is no real substitute for the inspiration we get from seeing new places and meeting new people. There is something about immersing yourself in a new culture that challenges you to look at your life and your dreams in an entirely new way.

Spend time in nature. Go for a walk in a park, collect seashells at the beach, hike through the mountains. Being in nature always gives you a fresh perspective—even if you are visiting someplace you’ve been before.  With every element in constant flux, you never really walk more than once through into the same forest.

Smile and move your body. Smiling and physical movement will get you out of your head and into the present. And especially when you are doing something you love to do, exercise releases endorphins which elevates our mood. So get moving.

Be mindful. Many of us know what it’s like to try and cope with a crazy, busy, go, go, go lifestyle. But it is so important to take time to slow down, notice, and breathe. Even finding just five to 10 minutes a day to sit in stillness or to walk in nature and really observe can help your mind build the ‘muscles’ it needs to let go of all the stress and worry so you can  be present and joyful in the moment.

Surround yourself with supportive friends. Humans are social creatures. Being part of a supportive tribe of people that understand you and want to see you succeed is a key component to living an inspired and happy life. Hang out with high-energy, positive people who have similar goals and dreams.

Be grateful. By focusing on our many blessings (even basic ones like a roof over our head and food in the fridge), we have a lot more to smile about. In doing so, we take the spotlight off whatever may be stressing us out. And, as an added bonus, being grateful for what we have is one more way to keep stress from eroding our happiness.

Get creative. Immerse yourself in the artistic process and let your glorious self-expression take over. Crank up your creativity by painting, writing, sewing, cooking, dancing, drawing or doing whatever it is that inspires you! Commit to it 100% and watch the magic unfold.
