In today’s Meet post, we’re introducing you to an amazing mom, wife, daughter, and valued Murad team member. She’s Katie-Brice Myers, our Quality Assurance Supervisor. Besides being an integral part of our team, Katie is also full of wisdom and wonder. In fact, she won our company mission statement contest with this inspiring entry:
To learn continuously, love fiercely, lead humbly, and inspire passionately; to act honorably and graciously in challenging situations; to assume nothing and to expect the best from others; to truly believe that the best is yet to come!
Who is your hero and why?
My grandpa is my hero and always has been. He is absolutely the classiest, most optimistic person I know, and he would do anything for anyone. He lives one moment at a time and never ceases to amaze me with his fearless approach to life.
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved hearing him tell the story about when he met Frank Sinatra. He was at a night club and found himself completely smitten with a gorgeous brunette, Frank’s lady friend at the time, Ava Gardner. As my grandpa attempted to woo Ava, he was quickly interrupted by Sinatra who snapped, “Hey, paisan, do you mind?”
I’m not sure whether it was the influence of this one wild encounter or my family’s general love of Sinatra’s music, but for as long as I can remember, my grandpa has signed every birthday, Christmas, and graduation card with “The best is yet to come.” And, this has become my personal mantra over the years.
You have such a positive attitude. How do you stay so balanced?
I believe that life should be lived on purpose. It shouldn’t just happen; rather, we should assume an active role in our own stories. Regardless of the circumstances of life—the disappointments, the heartbreaks, the so-called failures—there is always a lesson to be learned. It is our choice either to grow from the experience or to allow those circumstances to become our personal truth.
You recently experienced profound joy and profound loss. Can you share a little bit with us?
I believe we should love fiercely. My mom was 61 when she lost her battle to melanoma this past March. Ask anyone who knows me and they would tell you that, despite our differences, our love for each other was fierce. Just before she passed, my husband and I welcomed our first child, a son. Our love for him is something we never knew we could feel; it is fierce. Love is precious. Love is powerful. There shouldn’t be a day that goes by without loving fiercely, for we can never know how many more days we will receive.
When we live life intentionally, love others fiercely, lead with humility, and inspire passionately, it is simple to see that “the best is yet to come.”
What other words of wisdom can you share with us?
I believe we all have the power to inspire. My family inspires me every day with their ferocious tenacity. My colleagues inspire me with their ingenuity and ceaseless support. With all the negativity and defeat that constantly surrounds us, it is crucial that we honor each other through selfless service, encouragement, and friendship.
I believe that anyone can be a leader, but to lead with humility is a discipline that requires grace, self-awareness, and a sincere willingness to embrace change. It involves a passion to enrich peoples’ lives and a hunger to leave the world even slightly better than when having first arrived.
How do you embrace the Murad Inclusive Health Vision; Look, Live and Feel #BetterEveryDay?
How do you LOOK BETTER?
As a new mom, I have come to appreciate sleep on an entirely new level. I’ve completely surrendered and joined the other “mombies” (zombie moms) out there who are forever in search of a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Despite the sleep deprivation, I always make time for my Murad regimen. I am a fan of incorporating products from all our brands: Daily Cleansing Foam, Rapid Collagen Infusion, and Intensive C Radiance Peel. Right now though, my absolute cannot-live-without product is our Renewing Eye Cream! It keeps my sleepy eyes looking bright and awake!
How do you LIVE BETTER?
With limited time on my hands, I’m learning how to be creative when it comes to my fitness routine. I’ve got a 15 pound baby I can snuggle while doing sets of squats and lunges, and I just joined my husband’s family in a 30 day plank challenge! I’ve also recently become obsessed with drinking GT’s Kombucha. My favorites are Trilogy, Citrus, and Cosmic Cranberry. I think their mission is pretty inspiring as well: “To combine the wisdom of ancient medicinal foods with the resources of the modern day to create products that uplift and enlighten the health of all those who enjoy them.”
How do you FEEL BETTER?
This is always the toughest one, but I’m learning. With all the recent changes in my life, finding solitary time to grieve my mother, enjoy my son, and just breathe has proven beyond challenging. I find that my weekends are sacred. As such, I have vowed to get myself out of the house, into the sunshine, and to do at least one nurturing thing for myself. I might sneak in a little gym time, treat myself to a mani/pedi, or just take a nap!
What is your favorite Dr. Murad Insight?
“Turn the rest of your life into the best of your life.” This insight reminds me that whatever happened yesterday is in the past. We have a unique opportunity every day to choose to be a better version of ourselves.
What is your favorite Murad product?
It would have to be our AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser! I use it head-to-toe at least 3 times per week and always emerge feeling free from the dirt, grime, and expectations that our society tries to cover us in every day.
Thank you Katie for being so open and sharing your story with us. Really inspiring advice on how to live your best life. We are honored and grateful to have you working alongside us here at Murad. And yes Katie, the best is yet to come!
